The Coaching Habit - Michael Bungay Stanier
What’s in it
Have you ever been subjected to it? Where a manager or leader bombarded you with LOADS of advice?
Or maybe you’ve done it yourself? Whilst the person was still talking you were already coming up with solutions?
Yeah, that’s what this book says NOT to do. NOT to rush in to giving advice.
No, instead it provides SEVEN questions that you SHOULD ask instead.
Ranging from the AWE question (it’s my favourite) to the ‘lazy’ question (this easy to read, short book will give you THE questions to ask.
Oh, and rhetorical questions? Yeah, they’re just advice. So no. Just no.
Why I like it
It’s short, which meant I read it in an afternoon.
It’s very straightforward and gives you some really clear straightforward things to learn.
And the best part? Instead of doing the work by coming up with ‘the’ answer (which might not be the best answer), you let the other person do the thinking!
I like it! I like it a lot!
